Big White Ski Resort Extending Thanks to our KGH ICU Workers
The KGH doctors on staff received the Big White baskets with smiles and appreciation as they stepped out of their busy units for the special honour.
"We will continue to support and acknowledge the ongoing tireless work that our ICU and frontline workers face every day," says Senior VP , Michael J. Ballingall. "It's very rewarding to be able to celebrate and highlight the dedication of these professionals during this pandemic, which seems never-ending to so many health care workers."
According to ICU nurses, the fourth wave of the pandemic ignited by the Delta variant has caused increased exhaustion in the ICU units as more critical patients are being transported in for critical care from overflowing health care facilities across the province. The doctors and nurses that face COVID-19 and the Delta variant witness every day know firsthand the toll that this pandemic has taken on people in our communities. To these workers, the last wave of the pandemic was preventable—the initiation of the vaccine programs across had the power to alleviate the emergency conditions in our ICU units across the country. However, a percentage of the population remains unvaccinated, and these are the people who are continuing to put pressure on the limited space in ICUs.
"Their continuing fight through this unprecedented pandemic should not be understated," says Ballingall. "We will continue to help support the continuing efforts of our frontline and essential workers as they fight every day in our health care system. We hope that everyone continues to go and get vaccinated so that we can finally get our communities healthy and so that our health care professionals can finally get the break that they all deserve.”
