Big White Ski Resort Congratulates Cathy Astofooroff on Sport BC Honour

Posted On: March 09, 2026 |
Cathy Astofooroff, Executive Director of BC Snowboard and a longtime leader in the sport, has been named a 2026 In Her Footsteps… Celebrating BC Women in Sport honouree.

The recognition was presented at the 58th Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards on March 5, 2026, in Vancouver.

Big White Ski Resort congratulates Astofooroff on the honour, recognizing her more than three decades of leadership and dedication to growing snowboarding across British Columbia and beyond. Throughout her career, she has played a key role in developing programs, policies, and pathways that have helped the sport grow while supporting athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers at every level.

“Snowboarding would not be where it is today in Canada without someone like Cathy to help get it there,” said Flynn Seddon, Director of Terrain Parks & Outdoor Events at Big White Ski Resort. “Thank you, Cathy, for being you and doing what you do.”

Astofooroff’s journey in sport began long before snowboarding’s rise in British Columbia. Now the Executive Director of BC Snowboard, she first became involved in sport administration through BMX racing, helping support the early growth of the sport in Canada. Her focus later shifted to snowboarding when her son Chris became an avid competitor.

“Like any parent, Cathy had to take her son to the mountain, so instead of sitting around, she participated in some competitions as a racer,” Seddon said. “Her natural progression as an avid supporter of sport was to help out wherever she could, as the sport was still in its infancy.”

Seddon added that only a few individuals who dedicate their lives to something 24/7 reach this level of accomplishment — not for themselves, but for the athletes, parents, and the sport itself. Snowboarding, he said, would not be where it is today in Canada without someone like Astofooroff helping guide and grow the sport along the way.

Big White Ski Resort has long been a hub for snowboarding in British Columbia and is proud to celebrate leaders like Astofooroff who continue to strengthen the sport’s community and culture.
