Big White's Tess Critchlow, Kelsey Serwa and Ian Deans heading to 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics
Three Big White Ski Resort sponsored athletes are heading to the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games to represent Team Canada. Tess Critchlow was nominated to the women’s snowboard cross team while Kelsey Serwa was nominated to the women’s ski cross team and Ian Deans was selected as an alternate for the men’s ski cross team.
“We couldn’t be prouder of our three homegrown heroes,” says Michael J. Ballingall, senior vice president at Big White Ski Resort. “I’ve watched Tess, Kelsey and Ian grow into the incredible athletes they are today and know the entire community at Big White is going to be supporting and cheering them on every step of the way.”
All three athletes grew up skiing and riding at Big White and return home to spend time at the resort as often as their busy schedules allow. Tess moved to Big White at the age of five and entered her first race at the resort only a year later sparking her competitive drive to race. It’s been a lifelong dream for Tess to compete in the Winter Olympics and Big White is proud to have helped this dream become a reality.
Kelsey’s grandfather, Cliff Serwa, co-founded Big White Ski Resort in the early 1960s, so it was inevitable that Kelsey would lead a life greatly influenced by the skiing community and Big White. This will be Kelsey’s third time representing Team Canada in the Winter Olympics after winning silver in 2014.
Ian started skiing at Big White at the age of two and starting ski racing in fifth grade while living at Big White and attending the Big White Community School. His first ever ski cross event was at Big White while he was in college and since he’s quickly become a top competitor in the World Cup. Ian will be travelling to PyeongChang with the team and will be ready to step in at any time if he is needed.
