Tot Town to open this winter in the new Kids’ Centre expansion

Big White’s Kids’ Centre is expanding again this winter, with a new space for children aged three to four opening as part of Phase 2 of the relocation project at the Village Centre Mall.

The new area for Tot Town is expected to be ready for staff by mid-November. That timeline allows for the installation of furniture and play equipment, as well as onboarding and training of seasonal employees.

The expansion builds on the successful relocation of the Kids’ Centre last year, which saw programming for kids aged five to 12 move into a larger, more modern space within the same facility. That relocation, announced in July 2024, improved guest flow, enhanced energy efficiency and made better use of available space.

Centralized drop-off for families
Tot Town is located next to the existing Kids’ Centre, creating a single drop-off point for families with children in multiple age groups. The entrance is also located just a few steps from the on-mountain shuttle stop, reducing the walking distance for younger guests.

Designed for younger children
The new space is designed to give preschoolers a full day of play, rest and creative activity in a safe and welcoming environment.

On the left side of the room is a dedicated area for snacks, crafts, colouring and interactive play. The space is easy to clean and encourages exploration.
On the right side are built-in playhouses and a roadway designed to inspire imaginative play.
A wall-mounted display board allows staff to showcase daily artwork, with accessible storage nearby to keep the space organized.
At the back of the room, children can crawl through a small opening into a quiet zone set around a reading tree, used for slower-paced activities and story time.
The space also includes a dedicated nap room, child-sized washroom and change table.

All meals and snacks are prepared fresh onsite in the Kids’ Centre kitchen.

A long-term investment
The goal of the expansion is to streamline the guest experience while providing a safe, fun and developmentally appropriate space for younger children. Feedback from families helped shape elements of the layout and program structure.

Staff say the colour scheme, quiet reading space and interactive play areas are among the features they are most looking forward to sharing with families.

In addition to improving the guest experience, the expansion includes behind-the-scenes infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving building functionality and energy efficiency.
