Powderhounds Adaptive Program By People in Motion
Powderhounds Adaptive Program is a People in Motion specialized program designed to assist anyone at any age with physical, cognitive, or sensory challenges on the slopes at Big White Ski Resort. The program runs 7 days a week during Big White’s ski season and is led by volunteer certified Adaptive Ski Instructors.
Participants are provided with upright ski instruction with whatever aids may be necessary, along with sit-skiing for those who need additional support. A snowboard program is also available.
There is no typical day! The individual needs, challenges and desires of each participant are reviewed in advance, creating a plan to ensure a successful and fun downhill day for everyone. Family members are encouraged to join in, providing an amazing and enjoyable experience for the whole family!
All adaptive equipment and certified volunteer instructors are provided so advance bookings are necessary to ensure availability. The program graciously accepts donations to ensure continued success.
Lift Tickets for guests participating in the Powderhounds Program are entitled to 50% off their day ticket. Visit the Ticket Office in the Village Centre Mall, with proof of BCAS membership to redeem.

What Powderhounds Participants Are Saying
“This year is my first full year of skiing. Each and every time I ride the lift to the top of the mountain, I drink in the gorgeous scenery and feel such amazement that I am able to participate in skiing. It has changed my perception of winter and myself. I have friends in ski patrol, and friends that are ski instructors. They have always encouraged me to try skiing.
I have sensory and intermittent physical challenges, but my friends didn’t realize how much struggling I keep hidden, so I was the only one who really understood that I wouldn’t be able to be one of them - skiers. I stumbled into Powder Hounds by chance, seeing the flag. It is cliché to say that doing so changed my life for the better, but that’s exactly what happened. Because of Powder Hounds, I am to feel like I am part of a community instead of outside of it - an incredibly valuable experience. I have made friends and learned skiing skills. Ron helps, but I do about three-quarters of the skiing!
A highlight for me this year was skiing in the Kelowna Telus Cup.
I loved the smooth course and banked turns! I am so grateful to have had this program available to me.”
